First Church Communications Team

Aug 22, 2006
Members Present: Bill
Bartscher, Bennett Griffin (Chair), Harold Jones, Margaret Jones, Jerry
Niebaum, Michelle Parmley, Stitt Robinson, Patti Winn.
Advertising Update: We have
signed a 12-month contract with the LJ World for advertising in the newspaper
and on the paper’s website, www.ljworld.com.
The cost is $1,990. The web ad is up and running and will be on the website for
30 days. We will have 4 newspaper ads that will run on Sept 9, 10, 13, and 15.
The ad dimensions are 5” x 6”, and content will be decided later.
Bennett was able to talk with his neighbor, Ron Covert, who is the GM of KLZR 105.9. He said the station would match us in advertising money if we agreed to a campaign. Also, the possibility exists that the station could do a live-remote from West Campus the night of the KU Football Tailgate event, Sept 15. KLZR/KLWN will be broadcasting the football game, so anyone listening to the game would hear the feed from West Campus. This is free publicity. Ron Covert is checking with his crew to make sure they are not already booked.
Grand Opening Week Individual
Events Target Marketing: Lucinda Crenshaw, the coordinator for Grand Opening
Week, has communicated with her team that someone from the Communications Team
would be contacting them soon about their individual events. Last week, we
signed up for events that we would like to help promote. Please contact your
event shepherd(s) in the next few days and ask them how we can help. Bring any
questions you have regarding target marketing of your event to next week’s
meeting. Bennett has sent email listing all events, shepherds and their email
addresses, and the Communications Team Leader.
Event Update: Youth
Event—Nancy Larkin has signed a Christian Rock Band, Bread of Stone (www.breadofstone.com), to play at the
Youth Concert on Sept 16. This group normally charges around $4,500 per show,
but a stroke of good luck has allowed us to book them for our budgeted amount
of $750.
Community Open House—We have
learned that the Chamber of Commerce has a special rate for non-profit
organizations of $200 to join the chamber, and we believe that the church will
join in the next few days. This will allow us to have an official ribbon
cutting ceremony at the Community Open House on Sept 14. Chamber members along
with a city commissioner attend such events.
Next Meeting: Tuesday, Aug 29th, 7:30pm.
